November 22-24, 2024

event overview

Entries are now open for The Mystic Yak, running from 22-24 November in Victoria’s High Country.

A mini Stage Race built for the Weekend Warrior, our events are more a mix of Enduro/XC, with each stage loaded with the best single trail in the region.  Plus our unique handicap systems means you race each stage against yourself – making our events perfect for the average rider – more fun than serious.

The event will begin with a short Prelude Stage on the Friday afternoon, out of Beechworth, using a 10km loop on the western side of The Indigo Epic Trail!  All riders should do the Prelude as it is not just a great way to start the weekend, but also sets your Warrior Handicap for the weekend stages ahead. Following the Prelude everyone will head into Beechworth for welcome drinks at Bridge Road Brewery.

Saturday morning will see Bright host Stage 1, with a course through the best parts of Mystic MTB Park, adjacent to town.  Now under new management (by Elevation who also run Maydena) the trails are undergoing refurbishment and will be open in time for our event.  This region has a great reputation for both it’s XC and Enduro trail network and we are super excited to be designing a stage in such a great setting.  Riders can expect a course of just under 30km with 628m of elevation – with a perfect mix of climbing and sweet flowing single track that will challenge but reward all riders!

The final stage of The Mystic Yak on Sunday morning will start and finish from Yackandandah, utilising the Yack Tracks on the eastern side of The Indigo Epic Trail.  This network of tracks has fast garnered a glowing reputation on the east coast as one of Australia’s best new riding destinations.  The course design for Stage 2 will be simple as it will feature the main loop around Nine Mile Creek, coming in at an overall distance of 33km with 795m of elevation, which will be testing for some but heaps of fun for all.

We thought we would wrap up our event summary with a review from AMB after they rode the Indigo Epic Trail, to give riders an idea of what to expect.  “With so much variation in features and gradients, the Indigo Epic was really made for the modern down-country bike. A 100mm XC bike would relish the climbing on hand, while a heavier 150mm rig would rail the descents. However somewhere in between would be the goldilocks zone: a slack enough geometry to hit the descending features with ease, but not too much travel to slog uphill.” To read the full review of The Indigo Epic Trail by AMB click here.
