9th – 11th September 2022

event overview

The inaugural Quad Crown MTB Series event will descend on the trail network around Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale in the East Gippsland region of Victoria.

A little over 3.5 hours east of Melbourne CBD, Lakes Entrance is on the coast and offers one of the most beautiful locations you could imagine as a base for a multi-stage mountain bike event. The region has plenty of established mountain bike parks as well as a significant network of rails trail and back tracks within the various national parks.

stage one

Saturday 10th September

Lakes Entrance
distance: 55km
elevation: 378m

A prelude stage (at around 5-6km) will be held at a location near Lakes Entrance on the Friday afternoon before a welcome function in the town that evening. The prelude will not only allow riders to test their bike setup and get the legs rolling over but also act as a seeding opportunity for those that are keen to push to the front of the race over the coming stages.

On the Saturday riders can expect a solid day in the saddle as the morning stage will see a 50km+ loop course that will start and finish in the north-eastern town of Nowa Nowa, link up with the East Gippsland Rails Trail, pass the historic Stony Creek Trestle bridge, utilise the Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail and take in the Nowa Nowa MTB Park.

stage tw0

Saturday 10th september

Colquhoun
distance: 35km
elevation: 378m

A short drive back toward to Lakes Entrance to our host venue for the Saturday will allow riders to recharge their batteries with some local produce, rest and rehydration. The second stage will then see riders visit the Colquhoun National Park and a course alignment that will feature the best of the local MTB park. A shorter stage at around 30km, riders will need to find their legs on this loop course as a network of trails through the national park will take riders out toward the old Granite Quarry, the Log Crossing Picnic area and back into the MTB park via the Discovery Trail.  A great selection of local food, beer and wine will await riders at the finish line and provide the perfect tonic to swap stories after a huge day of riding.

stage three

SUNDAY 11th september

Mt Taylor
distance: 50km
elevation: 1001m

The third and final stage of the inaugural Quad Crown MTB event will focus upon Mt Taylor and the mountain bike park, just to the north of Bairnsdale. A 50km loop course will start and finish at the foot of the hills and offer superb views in the morning as riders assemble and look to get their legs underneath them. A solid climb awaits as a section of roads and back tracks will take the course up to Mt Taylor and the mountain bike trail network where riders will enjoy some of the best single trails in the region including Southern Cross, Milky Way and The Big Emu. The descent back to the finish line will be fun and fast and also offer spectacular views across to the coast before presentations and refreshments will wind up an amazing weekend of mountain biking.
